Matthew Coughlin

Founder · Fractional CFO · sixteen years in all areas of banking and corporate accounting.

Background

Matthew spent 16 years in all areas of banking and corporate accounting before founding Small Business Auxilium — on two sides of the house that rarely live in one career:

  • Credit & Lending. Originating commercial loans, writing credit narratives, and sitting in the loan committees where financing decisions are actually made.
  • Accounting & Operations. As the bank’s Controller — leading accounting and operations teams, automating systems, and serving others.

He now puts that dynamic accounting + credit background and lender’s-eye view to work for business owners: preparing companies for bank scrutiny, structuring financing requests that get approved, cleaning up and automating accounting processes, and providing executive financial leadership to operators, real estate investors, and owners preparing for exit.

“Purpose drives structure. Know why you need the money, how much, and how it comes back — and make the banker’s job easy. That’s the whole secret, and almost nobody walks in the door knowing it.”

— Matthew Coughlin

What that means for a client

When Matthew builds your loan package, he’s answering the questions he used to ask in committee. When he reviews your books, he’s reading them the way an underwriter, an auditor, and a buyer will read them. Sixteen years of pattern recognition — on your side of the table for a fraction of the cost of a full-time executive.
